Guys have rules. Rule #1 You don't date your sister’s best friend.
Bentley Sullivan hasn't found the one. He's always been the good guy - the gentleman. With one quick, and possibly irrational, decision everything changes. After a case of mistaken identity and a drunken kiss, Ben is convinced that the one is finally right in front of him. Only, she's untouchable.
Girls have rules. Rule #1 You don't date your best friend’s brother.
Piper Lawrence has not been successful in love. Almost as quickly as she swears off men, he comes into her life. Her childhood crush and the man who has set the standards for every man she’s ever dated, he is also the one man she can’t have.
A single kiss changes it all.
*This is book 1 of the Country Road Series. All books may be read as standalones and contain cross-overs by the characters*

I'm an AJ newbie with this one. And I can say I am glad I gave her a chance. This book held my attention from the very beginning. It was an easy read but still full of tension, issues and everything else needed to make a good book. And the secondary characters (always my fave) are so well written and transitioned so that you know who the next story is about. I can't wait for Jameson and Ashton's story!Okay, back to this one. I think the only issue I had with this story was the secrets. I got the reasons behind them but what? Secrets are okay if they don't have the potential to truly hurt someone you love. I am only glad it worked out in the end.
I love AJ's choice of alternating points of view. It was nice being able to work through the issues with the characters as the story developed. Sometimes stories like this are lacking because you don't truly know how the other person is feeling or dealing with certain things. Andrea definitely brought a new level to this story with the way she went about it.
Read this book. Now. Then go find out what Jameson and Ashton are up to in the next story.

Whiskey Honey edition by Andrea Johnston Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Well I read these books out of order, so I read book #3 first. But they are written stand-alone enough that I could do that and still go back and enjoy book #1.
Ben & Piper. Known each other since childhood. Piper was always just Ben's kid sister's best friend. Until Ben moves away for a while and returns home. Seeing Piper in a whole new way.
Ben is coming off a broken relationship. Piper just dumped her jerkwad of a boyfriend for cheating on her. Some sparks fly between them. But they fight it. They think they'll end up hurting Ashton (the kid sister/BFF) if they date and it doesn't work out.
I enjoyed watching them dance around it, all the while knowing they were meant to be together. They even work at the same place, since they are both teachers. And all their friends are mutual. So life keeps throwing them together.
A sweet love story, even if they had to take a roundabout way to get there!
I really enjoyed this story by Andrea Johnston and have put the rest of the Country Road series on my TBR to conclude the series. This was more than just your average Sister's best friend story. There was alot of pain on Pipers end and a whole lot of anger on my end (and yes Ben's end) for the people who treated her poorly even as adults. I enjoyed watching Piper flourish and finally believe that she is so much more than Pathetic Piper. I'll never look at charades the same again )
Ben returns to his small town after year away. Just a couple hours after arriving, he finds himself smitten with a mysterious redhead at the bar. When he sidles up to her to find out more, he finds that she is about as off-limits as you can get…she’s Piper, his sister Ashton’s best friend. The attraction is mutual, but they know that pursuing a relationship could put her lifetime friendship with Ashton at risk if things end badly.
Whiskey & Honey was a pretty solid four-star read, right up until the end. I enjoyed the book, this trope is one of my favorites and I did like the characters and story. However when I got to the last two chapters the wheels came off. It was just cheesy. The big reveal, that caused a lot of tension and angst throughout the book was supposed to be funny, but it came off as really kind of lame. It seems the whole book was for naught.
I’m not sure if I’ll read the second book. I really liked the character of Jameson but Ashton was a little over the top for me and I can see myself tiring of her need for attention and angst quickly. If you like steamy contemporary romance, this is the series for you. It’s a quick read and the characters are fun.
Andrea Johnston writes in a very easy style which makes me, the reader, feel very present in the moment with her characters. I feel like I'm watching her characters acting through a TV screen. She has a very descriptive style of writing and knows how to establish a scene in a book. She does this in Whiskey and Honey which is a fun and lighthearted read. I wanted to grab my kindle and give it a good hug after reading it because this type of book is why I read romance. The hero is a good man who cares for his family and friends, the story is full of a group of friends who make up a family unit who support each other and there is just enough conflict which makes me bite my nails hoping for the resolution that I crave.
This book is about Ben and Piper who are friends who have grown up with each other in a small town. Ben has been away for several years and has come back to his hometown and is immediately smitten with Piper, his little sister's best friend. One kiss changes everything for them. Even though the book focuses on Piper and Ben, they are a part of a group of friends who are like family. It was nice to read about them, and I hope Ms. Johnston continues this series with each character's story in this close-knit group.
Some other things I enjoyed were reading about a character's healthy relationship with an ex. It was refreshing to see that in a romance because it's pretty rare. Additionally, the small town setting was comfortable and made me feel right at home.
I recommend reading Whiskey and Honey on a rainy, Saturday afternoon while you are warm and cozy on your couch with a cup of tea in your hand. It's like wrapping yourself in a warm cocoon! It's such a sweet book with just the right amount of angst.
